 What Is The Relationship Between Language and Culture?

Since historical times, ancient civilizations have created a way to express their feelings, opinions, and emotions. Scientists and anthropologists have shown that some civilizations developed a communication system better than others. Since then, language has evolved to turn into the different manifestations we already know; there are around 6000 languages in the world now. Language has immensely influenced the development of the culture of a nation; to improve citizens' way of living, words, tones, pronunciations, norms, regulations, laws, and values have reinforced culture, and consequently, people's identities. SESSION FIVE: "MY PLACE IS YOUR PLACE"

 How Many Countries Have Four in One?

I already shared Ecuador is a small place in Latin America and has beautiful places that tourists and local people like to visit. It is a fact, it is not a huge place, but it has four worlds in one, though. It has four regions, each with its wonder and beauty, that most of us like to admire. You can exchange with kind people and enjoy the warmth of the weather on the beaches and cities in the coastal region. On the other hand, people are more conserved and quiet in the highlands, but the climate is cold and enjoyable. Also, you can visit the volcanoes and lakes surrounded by land. In the Amazon region, you can enjoy the rivers in the wild and learn some customs and languages from some tribes. Finally, people love marine life and water sports in the Galapagos Islands. That is why my favorite phrase is Ecuador Four in One because a marvelous place is waiting for you!   

SESSION FOUR: "NEW YEAR'S EVE IN ECUADOR"

How is New Year's Eve Celebrated in Your Country?

New Year's Eve is an important celebration around the world; it is a time for reflection on past events to make new plans for the future. For some people, it is a new opportunity to make things better. For others, it is time for partying and dancing. There are many activities and traditions in different countries. In Ecuador, people eat twelve grapes at midnight or run around the block to get good luck. In South Africa, people sing and dance on the streets, wearing bright clothes and painted faces. In Denmark, friends leave broken dishes at their family members' front door to wish them good luck. In Greece, people make St. Basil's cake with a gold or silver coin as a secret ingredient; the person who gets the slice with the money will have a lucky year. SESSION THREE "LET'S TALK ABOUT MOVIES AND BOOKS"

 What is Your Favorite Movie?

You have probably heard the question What is your favorite movie? many times in conversations with friends, family meetings, parties, and even in classrooms, especially when a teacher wants to know their students' favorite tastes in movies genres. But the thing goes further than this point; as a teacher, I use this question to establish a relationship with my students. I need them to feel confident enough to share the type of films they like the most, the elements of the movie that get their minds and hearts, and the role of the characters that make some of them unforgettable. Of course, there are other elements such as the moral or the message that the producers want to convey and the soundtrack that make people feel emotions. I love the kind of films that make me reflect on issues like life or death; movies that awake my consciousness and make me think and learn something new. There are plenty of movies and thousands of reasons to explain people's preferences; as a good teacher, I respect my students' opinions. Can you tell me what your favorite movie is? Why do you like that movie? What is its moral?. Well, here you have a space to answer all these questions.  

SESSION TWO: "ARTS IN ECUADOR"

 Is There Any Kind of Art in Ecuador?

Ecuador is located in South America with the Pacific Ocean on the west. It has a lot of blessings due to the weather and the richness of its land. The historians said this country was part of an immense reign called The Tahuantinsuyo along with other countries. Perhaps due to this background, its culture is within every region of the cities. For instance, the colonial churches in Quito, the ruins of Ingapirca near Canar, and the marvelous city of Cuenca; were designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In regards the art, Ecuador has many exponents such as the famous Oswaldo Guayasamin, Eduardo Kingman, Enrique Tabara, Gonzalo Endara, and more. Some Ecuadorian artists have based their work on geographical land and folk traditions. They have developed art through different forms such as paintings, sculptures, wood carving, metal, and all types of artisans that work in several ways. What do you think about the art in Ecuador?

 Have You Ever Celebrated Any Festivals in Ecuador?

Ecuador is a small country in South America bathed by the water of the Pacific Ocean. Although it is not a big country like others, it possesses a beautiful and blessed land where you can enjoy the wonder of the four regions. In the Coastal region, there are a lot of beaches and hotels; in the Sierra or Highlands, people wake up their imagination of dreaming in heaven watching the mountains and volcanoes. The Amazon region has many rivers where people can practice extreme sports; the Galapagos Islands offer a variety of stunning animals and birds. People are kind, gentle and very friendly, and welcome all the tourists who want to visit our precious territory. What celebrations can you enjoy in Ecuador?
